ICF publishes new standards — coaching in the age of artificial intelligence
"Coaching remains a deeply human practice even when we use AI tools to support the process. Technology does not replace human understanding, empathy, or professional judgment."
— ICF Thought Leadership Institute
The International Coaching Federation (ICF) has released updated professional standards that for the first time explicitly address the use of artificial intelligence in coaching practice. The document stresses the need to preserve the human element and professional ethics when working with AI tools.
The standards define boundaries for the use of AI assistants, requirements for client data confidentiality, and the need for continuous professional development of coaches in a fast-changing technological environment.
Our view
ICF standards confirm our approach — AI is a tool, but responsibility for the process and outcomes stays with the human. At EANTRO we build this layer of human responsibility in AI transformations.
Conclusions
The updated ICF standards strengthen EANTRO's position — we need not automation of coaching but systematization of accountability. Human Responsibility Layer is the function that turns the human element from a risk into a manageable asset.
